Book #7: The Spirit of Steamboat by Craig Johnson

Man, these Walt Longmire stories are like M&M's--I just can't stop.  Steamboat was the name of the bronco on the Wyoming license plate, and a B-25 bomber in WWII.  In this thrilling novella, Walt flashes back to his early days as sheriff, telling us of the death-defying flight of the vintage bomber to save a young girl's life.  Not a mystery, but a real page-turner.  Excellent.

Movie: Gone Baby Gone

Ben Affleck's directorial debut, staring his brother Casey Affleck as a young, inexperienced PI seemingly in over his head in trying to locate an abducted 3-year-old girl. This gritty movie has enough twists and turns to satisfy most viewers.  Deb and I watched his for an hour before we finally figured out we had seen it before, but it still took us a while to remember most of the ending.  Is doing the right thing always the right thing to do?

Book #6: Wait for Signs, Twelve Walt Longmire stories

This is a little out of order.  I read this earlier this year but forgot to post on it.  These are twelve stores that Craig Johnson wrote, one each year, as a Christmas present for his loyal readers.  If you are a Longmire fan, you will love these stories.

Book #5: Last Night in Montreal

by Emily St. John Mandel

Eli's lover, Lillia, leaves him with no warning.  Abducted at age seven by her father,on the run for years, she is dominated by the urge to always move on.  The intertwining of the lives of Eli, Lillia, Christopher, (the detective obsessed with the disappearance), and his daughter Michaela, is a fascinating exploration of what "skating over the surface of life" leaves in its wake.

I love the way Emily St. John Mandel writes!
