#19, The Plague of Doves, by Louise Erdrich

This novel takes place in and around the shrinking town of Pluto, North Dakota and the adjoining Indian reservation. This is in reality a collection of interconnected short stories; a character in one becomes the narrator in the next. The stories skip back and forth in time, but this never leaves the reader disoriented. The characters are treated with respect and empathy. I was left with the belief reinforced that if we dig beneath the surface any place on earth, no matter how remote, can yield riches in the stories revealed by the relationships of those who live there. I throughly enjoyed this book.
